We are living in an age with a renewed commitment to conservation, and are frequently reminded to recycle, reduce and reuse. Last Sunday marked Earth Day, so today we thought we would discuss some of the things we do to conserve our natural resources and the environment.

Our office is digitalized, which means we can operate without the use of large amounts of paper and printing materials. The information in our office can be sent and processed digitally, which is also more efficient. We take all of the steps possible to be a 'green' office, making us better for the planet and more convenient for our patients.

Can you believe that it's already March? All of us at Holzhauer and Hewett Orthodontics are excited for the beginning of spring, and we wanted to give our patients a few updates from the office!

Dr. Dan and Dr. Charley visited Merton Primary School and Hartland South Elementary School for Dental Health Month last month. They showed a video called “The Haunted Mouth” and talked to 3rd graders about good oral health. The kids were shown how to properly brush and floss, as well as what causes plaque and decay. The doctors visit local elementary schools every year and really enjoy talking to the children!

We also have two new assistants at the office, Sheree and Elise. They are both dental assistant students at a local community college, and are aspiring to go into dental hygiene. Please join us in welcoming them to our office!

It seems like in today’s world, every day feels like social media day. However, June 30th is officially Social Media Day, “a day to celebrate the revolution of media becoming social.” Much like the use of cell phones, checking and updating social media has become a daily routine for many people. We are particularly grateful for social media because we are able to interact with patients like you.

Recently we found a very interesting study about social media that was presented on May 25, 2011 by Edison Research and Arbitron that presents some very interesting statistics about social media use in America today. One fascinating highlight is that approximately 46 million Americans who are the age of 12 or older check their social media sites and services several times a day. Check out the full study for more interesting information about social media and social networking.

As you might have noticed, we love engaging in conversation with our patients online. It’s a great way to connect with our patients. It also helps us share news, photos, ideas, and upcoming events at the office. We have found that our Facebook fan page and blog are great tools for making this connection.
